What is a DTF transfer and how does it work?
DTF (direct-to-film) printing prints your artwork onto a special PET film and coats it with a hot-melt adhesive powder. You place the transfer on the garment, heat press it and peel the film away, leaving a soft, full-colour print bonded to the fabric. F&H Print produces ready-to-press custom DTF transfers for t-shirts, hoodies, caps and tote bags in New York City.
What is a DTF gang sheet and why is it cheaper?
A DTF gang sheet packs many designs onto one large sheet instead of printing each design on its own sheet, so you pay for film area rather than per design. You can arrange your layout in our online DTF gang sheet builder or upload a print-ready file, which is the cheapest way to order custom DTF transfers in bulk for a small apparel brand.
What is the difference between DTF transfers and UV DTF stickers?
DTF transfers are heat pressed onto fabric such as shirts, hoodies and hats. UV DTF perma stickers need no heat at all and stick to hard surfaces like mugs, tumblers, glass, metal and phone cases, with a raised 3D texture and waterproof finish. Choose DTF transfers for apparel and UV DTF stickers for hard goods and drinkware.
What temperature and time should I use to press DTF transfers?
As a general guide, press DTF transfers at roughly 300-320°F (150-160°C) for 10-15 seconds using medium to firm pressure, then peel the film following the peel type of your film (warm or cold). Always run a test press on the same fabric first, because cotton, polyester and performance blends can react differently.
How long do DTF transfers last after washing?
A correctly pressed DTF transfer will survive well over 50 wash cycles without cracking or peeling. To get the longest life from your custom printed apparel, wash the garment inside out in cold water, avoid bleach and fabric softener, and tumble dry on low heat.
How long does an order take and do you ship across the USA?
Most custom DTF transfer, gang sheet and blank apparel orders are printed and dispatched within 3 to 5 business days. Is there a minimum order for DTF transfers or blank apparel?
No, there is no minimum order at F&H Print - you can order a single DTF transfer or one gang sheet. Larger quantities of gang sheets and wholesale blank apparel get better per-unit pricing, so bulk orders for teams, events and small clothing brands are welcome too.
What file format should I send for DTF printing?
Send a PNG with a transparent background at 300 DPI, saved at the exact size you want it printed. Vector files such as AI, EPS, PDF or SVG work perfectly too. Low-resolution JPG images saved from social media will look blurry or pixelated once they are printed at full size.
Can DTF transfers be pressed onto dark or coloured garments?
Yes. DTF printing lays down a white underbase beneath your artwork, so colours stay bright and opaque on black, navy and other dark garments as well as on white. It works on cotton, polyester, poly-cotton blends, canvas tote bags and most performance fabrics.
